How to create your own NFT
You may have heard about the exorbitant amounts that NFTs have been sold for, you may have read articles by artists who have become rich selling NFTs and millionaire investors by trading them. If your curiosity has been piqued, then read on for an introduction on how to create your own NFT.
First of all, let’s start with the warnings, such as the one indicated by El Planteo. “You have to know that there will be some initial costs. NFTs are powered by blockchain. They usually do it with Ethereum. The use of blockchain has a cost, a network fee called gas, which you will have to pay to tokenize your art. So yes, it is important to ensure that even digital art costs money and needs initial capital.
The first step in creating NFTs and selling them is knowing what your purpose for them is and what stage name you will sign them with. Sure, that shouldn’t take you long: if you’re reading this article, it’s because you’ve already thought of what you’d like them to be. If not, now is the time.
If you’re worried about the technical expertise required to create them, don’t worry: “There’s a huge misconception that you have to be technical to get into crypto,” said Denise Schaefer, co-founder of educational blockchain platform Surge. “But I see NFTs as a fun entry into the space that doesn’t require coding skills to mint on marketplaces like OpenSea or Rarible .”
Next, you should choose the platform that is right for you. Megan DeMatteo, at CoinDesk, lists some of the most popular ones: OpenSea , Rarible , Holaplex , and Objkt .
The next step is to link a wallet to the chosen platform. The most common is MetaMask, but there are others such as Bitski, Dapper or CoinbaseWallet . You should then enter a password, sign in and create your first collection: you just have to choose a logo, a profile picture and voilà, you can upload the file you want to convert into an NFT.
Of course, if you are interested in selling your NFT – which is most likely – you must click on the ‘sell’ button and indicate the time during which it will be auctioned. If you are lucky and sell it, the platform you have chosen will take a commission. For OpenSea, they take a 2.5% commission.
